Our guild has five simple rules. They exist to provide a good environment to RP in for yourself and others.
The interpretation and application of the rules is done by the masters.
- Keep guild chat clean and happy.
- Display good RP etiquette
- Stay true to lore.
- Enter and exit RP properly.
- No lightsabers until you have crafted one in RP.
1. Keep guild chat clean and happy.
Guild chat is a source for OOC chatter, we want whatever is relevant, informative, nonsensical, insane or totally random in there. That said, a few things do not belong in it. Keep in mind to keep guild channels family friendly.
- Offensive language (swearing) is not allowed. Do not use the “f-word” as an expletive, for example. Avoid being overly vulgar in general. If you need an expletive, there are words in Star Wars lore that are more suitable, such as kriffing and stang, for example.
- No religious and political discussions. Of course, the Star Wars religions and politics (lore) are an exception.
- No arguing. Friendly discussions are fine – bickering is not tolerated. We are glad to say that this almost never happens.
- No drama. We recommend that our members keep their private lives separate from the guild and the game in general to a certain degree. Try not to burden your fellow guild members with everything that bothers you in your life.
- Disputes should be reported to Ikonicre, Terrellia, or Kabie. They will mediate in these cases.
2. Display good RP etiquette
Do not break or disrupt immersion in RP.
- Inside and outside guild RP. This applies to other guilds as well as ours.
- Do not ruin other people’s RP. For example, this includes activating weapons inside the Jedi Temple on Tython (outside of the training room), as well as activating force/tech abilities. It also includes running through and around characters in RP.
- RP without companion. Companion NPCs have no place in RP.
- Avoid constant IC running. Use your run/walk button to “walk” instead of running – running looks quite unnatural in most RP. Of course, if there’s a reason you’re running – you should. It can be helpful to run a little stretch to catch up to people.
The default key is numpad slash – you can change the assigned key under Preferences -> Movement -> Toggle Run/Walk. - Separate IC and OOC. Do not post out of character messages in say chat – unless you use (( parenthesis )). It’s generally preferable to use OOC channels for these things.
- RP outside the guild. Be mindful when observing or taking part in RP sessions of other guilds uninvited. Be respectful, if you wish to watch, do so from a little distance. Emote that you are looking on for a while if you do. Try not to interact unless you are invited into a session. Don’t linger too long if you are not.
- Private lessons. As a rule, you’re welcome to attend all RP. Some lessons are private for obvious IC reasons – it would not make sense for an initiate to sit in on a Jedi teaching another Jedi in advanced Force powers.
- No ERP – ever. Participation in this, or a strong suspicion thereof will result in ejection and a ban. This is not limited to interactions within the guild.
3. Stay true to lore.
Jedi lore is at the heart of our RP. Everyone has their own story, character background and ideas how to RP – it is possible your character will exhibit some of the traits below as a character flaw, and this is acceptable. At the same time, you should be aware that if continued and unaddressed these things may hurt your progress.
- Disrespectful RP. In Jedi lore, students would show great respect to Jedi Knights and Jedi Masters.
- Un-Jedi-like RP. The Jedi Code is the starting point of lore. As your RP strays from it, your character’s progress will slow, in keeping with Jedi lore
- Rejection of the Jedi way. If a member rejects the Jedi teachings, he will be warned in character. If this continues, they will likely have to appear before a Jedi council. If it persists, the character will likely end in being dismissed from the enclave. This is in keeping with lore, Jedi and Jedi students are not prisoners of the Order. If this is the main character, this likely means removal from the guild as well.
- Common sense. Please do not RP in a manner clearly ignoring lore and common sense. Entire sects of Dark Jedi have RP’ed on Tython, but these are so utterly contradictory to existing Jedi lore that they should not exist. Engaging in RP with such would not be good.
- Appearance. Jedi lore has clear traditions on Jedi apparel. Black robes, for instance, are not acceptable for RP.
- Lightsaber crystals. Some lightsaber crystals are very suitable to Jedi RP – some are not so good, but still allowed – some are not allowed.
- Travel. Initiates and Padawans are restricted (for reasons of lore) to the following (safe) areas: the Jedi temple, the temple’s courtyard, the nearby lake and Kalikori village as well as aboard the “Harmony” (guild flagship) in orbit of Tython. This only applies when in character, of course. You are of course free to travel the entire galaxy when out of character.
– Padawans may leave Tython when accompanying their master, as well as on certain missions on behalf of the enclave (such as guild story events).
– Jedi Knights and Masters are unrestricted. - Inactivity. We have an established policy for inactivity. It may be reviewed […..]. It takes very little time to leave a message detailing the span of time you will be absent. It takes even less to update your period of absence in said thread. Keep us informed.
4. Enter and exit RP properly.
Always signal that you are in character when you’re entering RP. Similarly, always make an exit for your character. This makes it easy for everyone to see you’re ready to RP and gets the ball rolling. Also, it helps others continue RP when your character is leaving for some reason.
- Bowing. As a general rule, one should bow to the highest ranking member present upon entering or exiting any RP. (Bowing once will suffice, you don’t have to bow for every higher ranking member individually if they’re in a group)
– Initiates, Padawans and Service Corps members should bow to Jedi Knights and Jedi Masters. Padawans should (also) bow to their own master.
– Jedi Knights should bow to Jedi Masters.
– In other cases, bowing is not strictly required.
You may use an emote like “/bow” for this purpose – or write an emote yourself “/e bows” - Nodding. When you’re not required to bow (see above) you can acknowledge others while entering and exiting with a simple nod, or a similar gesture.
- Reason for exiting RP. A lot of the time, it will not be (entirely) logical for your character to depart – yet life’s circumstances might demand you go away from the keyboard or offline. Think of a reason your character has to leave and share it with who you’re RPing with before making your exit (see bowing). Please go with something that makes sense.
- Titles. When you’re using a title to address someone, the following forms are recommended for use:
– Jedi Masters: “Master <name>” or “Master”.
Please note that “Master Jedi” is incorrect, as it only means “mister Jedi” (it’s suitable for outsiders, but not for Jedi among themselves) – use the full “Jedi Master” instead if you must.
– Jedi Knights: “Knight <name>”, “Jedi <name>” or “Knight”.
– Padawans: “Padawan <name>” or “Padawan”. Alternatively, “Apprentice <name>” or “Apprentice” (less common, but accurate).
– Initiates: “Initiate <name>” or “Initiate”.
– A Jedi Knight who has taken you as their padawan: “Master <name>” or “Master”. “My master”, “Knight <name>”, or “Jedi <name>” when speaking of the person.
–This does not mean the title should be continuously used. In greetings and when addressing someone directly, they are useful for reinforcing immersion. (see “bowing”)
–You can pick either the first or last name in combination with the title based on your personal preference.
5. No lightsabers until you have crafted one in RP.
For reasons of lore, you may not enter RP with a lightsaber equipped until you have assembled one as part of your padawan training.
- Initiates. This means initiates cannot carry lightsabers in RP.
- Training blade. Until such a time that you’re allowed to bear a lightsaber, you require a training blade. These are available (at low cost) from the temple on Tython. The weapon must be marked “Requires Training Saber” in its stats.
- Unsuitable blades. Other weaponry will not be permitted in RP until a lightsaber has been crafted. Unsuitable weapons include weapons marked as requiring: lightsaber, double-bladed lightsaber, techblade, techstaff, vibrosword, electrostaff. You may not carry them until you are eligible to carry a lightsaber.
- Double-bladed Lightsaber / Two Lightsabers. Once you become eligible to carry a lightsaber, you may choose to carry a staff or two lightsaber (if one of your ooc classes supports it). This does not apply to the lightsaber combat emote system (see: Bonus Content and below).
- Blasters. Following the introduction of Combat Styles, characters now have the ability to multi-class. Characters should not engage in IC display of non-Jedi weapons unless there is a very clear and obvious story/character need to do so. OOC you may of course choose your secondary class and use it as you please.
- Out of character. When OOC you’re allowed to carry as many lightsabers and other weapons as you please.
On lightsaber combat emoting (Bonus Content)
- Which we often call Emote lightsaber combat the “old” or “classical techniques” (fully emoted lightsaber combat).
- Opposite to these are the “new” or “modern techniques” (= duels and open PvP)
- These forms are optional to learn and not required for advancement – they take considerable time to learn and teach.
- However, if you do choose to emote lightsaber combat, they are required.
- The forms are taught in sequential, numerical order, starting with Form I: Shii-Cho, once this form is mastered, next would Form II: Makashi be taught and so forth until Form VI: Niman.
- The first form, Shii-Cho, is taught with training blades only. Makashi training requires a lightsaber, which you would be required to own ICly.
- Training in the use of paired Lightsaber emotes or Double-bladed Lightsaber emotes requires mastery of Form VI: Niman.
Removal from the Guild
- Guild members may be removed for unreported, prolongued inactivity. The member will typically be able to rejoin, unless they have a history of inactivity.
- Guild members may be removed when their main character is removed from the enclave for reasons of lore (see rule 3). Whether the member will be allowed to rejoin, will be judged on a case by case basis.
- Guild members may be removed for the good of the guild. When the rules are broken, the member will be reminded of them. If it continues, the member will be officially warned. If it still persist, the member is removed. Such a removal will typically be final. Appeals may be directed at Ikonicre for consideration.
Event Rules
Role-play events can be a lot of fun, but there are some pitfalls that can really put a damper on the enjoyment. For this, we have these event rules. They’re not so much rules, as simply a bunch of common sense guidelines, which have been widely agreed upon in the past. With them, we get to the fun parts, which is what events are all about. Fun!
